During this new construction inspection, we found several concerns with the Hardie / fibre-cement siding, including protruding nail heads and questionable fastening. Hardie siding is often blind-nailed, meaning many fasteners are concealed by the siding above. Proper fastening matters. Nails that are protruding, overdriven, missing, or poorly positioned can contribute to loose siding, cracking, movement, and premature deterioration. One of the affected pieces was approximately 2½ ft. × 4 ft. — a substantial section to have questionable fastening.
