Buying a new build in Edmonton or St. Albert? Don’t assume everything was installed correctly just because the home is brand new. This video was filmed during a new-build home inspection in 2025, but the lesson is just as relevant today. At this home, the sump basin was missing the weeping tile inlet, and the gasket designed to help seal the lid against radon, moisture, and odours was left sitting at the bottom of the basin. It’s a good example of why an independent new-home inspection matters. Even on brand-new construction, components can be missed, installations can be incomplete, and sometimes “close enough” makes it to possession.
