I am inspecting a brand new side by side duplex with legal basement suites and there are renovations that are still occurring. Now, let me show you something that is undergoing with this renovation. You will notice that the builder has elected to use a 4 inch insulated flex line which should be six inches and if you look at this power supply it is a 14-2 which hasn’t been roughed in yet. If you trace the wire back they are trying to piggyback off of a 20 amp circuit for the counter plugs. Now, that wire is only designed for a 15 amp circuit. Additionally, you are not suppose to tie into a counter outlet. This is only one reason why it is important to not opt out of that property inspection. It does not matter if it is new or old since connections are equally as important for all.
