Happy Tip Tuesday Everyone! I find myself in the attic today as when we were doing a thermal image scan we noticed elevated moisture reading inside the secondary bedroom. The root cause is the roof vent that has been used. That is a perimeter roof vent to allow the intake air to come into the attic and properly ventilate it. Now what occurs is the building or roofing contractors are installing a roof vent that sits about 3 or 4 inches off the roof deck and what happens is with the prevailing winds the snow will infiltrate through the roof vents and this condition can occur. This is a common concern that we observe. What I often tell clients is that if you are having a new roof installed or a new house-built talk with your contractor about having an elevated roof vent installed. The elevated roof vent will sit 15 inches off the roof surface which minimizes the risk of this occurring. Again, it will cost more money, but it will outperform and minimizes the chance of this occurring. Keep the money where it belongs in your pocket! Right Tools, Right Training, The Right Choice!
