Here’s something we’re seeing more often on site: exhaust vents that look fine on the surface but are missing key details when installed through EIFS (Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems).
Why does it matter?
When warm, moist air vents out through a poorly finished opening, it can condense and freeze—leading to ice buildup around the vent. Over time, that frost can damage the surrounding cladding, especially if the system wasn’t properly back-wrapped or sealed.
We’ve seen:
❌ Gaps filled with caulking instead of proper flashing
❌ Exposed mesh left vulnerable to weather
❌ Undersized vent openings that increase frost risk
EIFS is a great system when it’s detailed correctly. But shortcuts now can lead to water damage and expensive repairs later.
🎥 In today’s video, I walk you through what to look for and explain why proper termination and back-wrapping are essential.
Your building envelope is only as strong as its weakest detail.
